FAQ
Bible study questions and answers
Everything you might want to know before joining a free Bible study in BC.
Is the Bible study really free?
Yes. Every study, every printed or digital material and the reading plan are completely free. There's no catch and nothing to buy.
Do I need to know anything about the Bible?
Not at all. Many people start with no background whatsoever. We'll show you how to find passages and explain things as we go. If you don't have a Bible, we can help you get one.
Can I choose between in-person and online?
Yes. When you sign up, simply select In-Person or Online. In-person studies are arranged where a study partner is available near you; online studies are available anywhere in BC.
How long is each study and how often do we meet?
Most studies take about an hour, once a week, but you set the pace. Some people meet every other week; others prefer two shorter sessions.
Is this connected to a particular church?
Our focus is simply the Bible. We study what Scripture says, comparing verse with verse. You're welcome whatever your background, and you'll never be pressured to join anything.
What do I need for an online Bible study?
A phone, tablet or computer with internet access. A Bible and notebook are helpful but not required; we'll share the verses on screen.
Which video platform do you use?
Usually a simple video link that opens in your browser. If you prefer a particular app you already use, just let us know.
Where do in-person studies take place?
Usually in your home, but we can also meet at a library, a community centre or a quiet café, wherever you're comfortable.
Is in-person study available in my town?
In-person studies are arranged wherever a study partner is available nearby. If there isn't one close to you yet, we'll start online and let you know when an in-person option opens up.
What happens in a typical Bible study?
We begin with a short prayer, read a series of Bible passages on one topic, and talk about what they mean. You'll have plenty of time to ask questions. Most studies last about an hour.
What topics do you cover?
Our series covers the Bible itself, God the Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, creation, salvation by grace, the Ten Commandments, the Sabbath, baptism, the Lord's Supper, Bible prophecy, marriage and family, and health. See all study topics.
Which Bible translation do you use?
We usually read from the King James Version, and many study partners also use the New King James Version. You're welcome to bring whichever Bible you have.
Can teenagers join?
Yes, with a parent's or guardian's knowledge. Families are also welcome to study together.
Is there an opening prayer I can use for Bible study?
Yes. Here's a simple one: “Father, thank You for Your Word. Please open my mind and heart to understand what I read, and help me to live it. In Jesus' name, amen.” See more tips in How to Read the Bible.
Will you ask me for money?
No. Our studies are free, and you'll never be asked for money during a study.
How is my information used?
Only to arrange your Bible study. We never sell or share your details. Read our privacy policy.
Still have a question?
Ask it in your first study, or send us a message. We'd love to hear from you.
